Red ant rodeo

Spotted this small caterpillar on the compost bin lid behaving rather oddly and then found it was being ridden by a red ant. had alternating bouts of the caterpillar remaining stationary, going for a walk and then thrashing about. This went on for over 40 minutes before both eventually disappeared (not sure who won).
Last shot is animated gif about 8 shots and may take a while to load.

Thanks BC and Matt for the comments - yes does seem to have a good grip - the animation does not exaggerate the speed the caterpillar moved at.
